The Livada Golf Course at Terme 3000 in Moravske Toplice is located in the Prekmurje region, in the northeast corner of Slovenia. It is less than 20 kilometres from the borders of Austria, Hungary, and Croatia.

Situated directly alongside the luxurious Hotel Livada Prestige 5*, this course is an absolute paradise for anyone wishing to experience this elegant sport, whether you are a seasoned pro or an absolute beginner.

Golf Course Livada was constructed in 1998, according to the project of Dušan Bencik. Initially, three holes were built, then five, then 12, and the playground was completely completed in 2006. Since then, its appearance has gradually changed, mostly thanks to trees planted next to individual holes.

Today, the course covers approximately 55 hectares, and it has 18 holes. For beginners, it is a pleasant first encounter with golf, while for experienced golfers, the course offers an interesting landscape to enjoy the game.

For those who want to know more about this course, here is some important information.

♦ Livada Golf Course has 18 holes and PAR 72.
◊ The course is about 6,200 metres long. The first hole is the easiest and best to start off your game. Then, golfers encounter a series of wide fairways, water hazards, interestingly shaped greens, and challenging patches of rough. About five hectares of the course are occupied by water areas and biotopes (natural or partially arranged habitats with various plant and animal species).

♦ The ninth hole has a special place on the course. It is a PAR 5 hole almost 600 meters long from white fairways. This is the longest hole in all of Slovenia! The first third is relatively wide, and then the field narrows and turns slightly to the left.

 

◊ The best way to practice is to begin at the Driving Range, where golfers can practice both short putts and long drives.
♦ The Golf Club includes a clubhouse, golf carts, changing rooms, lockers, a club bar, and a restaurant.
◊ Renting a golf cart costs about 25 euros for nine holes, or 35 euros for 18 holes.

 

🏌🏻Golf is not a luxury and meant only for rich people

“Golf still has a reputation as an expensive and somewhat elitist sport, but such an image is less and less true to reality. As with other sports, the costs depend on how often you play, what equipment you choose and where you train,” says Daniel Donša, manager of Livada Moravske Toplice Golf Course.

 

Approximately, a basic set of equipment can be obtained for around 600 euros, which makes the start of playing more accessible than many assume. In addition, golf is a sport where equipment can last for years and can be played at different ages.

Golf is also interesting for children and young people because, in addition to the sport itself, it develops concentration, patience and independence, and it requires the players to respect the rules.

Watching players prepare for the next shot, it’s easy to think that golf is complicated and out of reach. But quickly, you realise that you don’t have to be a professional player or come with expensive equipment to try it out. Actually, the first step can be much simpler than it seems.

 

🏌🏻‍♀️How to start playing golf?

For those who have never played golf, the best way is a ten-hour beginner’s course.

It teaches you everything necessary for the first real outing on the field, from the basic shot and short game to putting, rules and behaviour on the field. An important part of the course is the first contact with the real golf course.

After the successful completion of the initial course, you get a license to play, and joining the golf club opens the way to an official handicap, a numerical measure of a player’s skill level.

After that, the player can play the registered round, and the result is entered into the system according to the rules of the World Handicap System. Thus, each player gets their first official HCP, i.e. a handicap that enables comparing the results of players of different levels. A lower number means a better player. And this is actually where the most interesting part begins.

The course is introduced anew with each round. The game gradually improves, and the company of other golfers becomes part of the whole story.

At the same time, it looks easy: just hit the ball. But you have to hit it correctly, judge the direction, distance, and terrain, and stay calm. You think the ball will go where you imagined, but usually it doesn’t 🤩 So you have to practice, and practice…

It was so interesting strolling around the holes, water hazards, across the small wooden bridges and among the trees.

Yes, the basic rules of golf are the same for both women and men. The difference may be in which tee to start the game.

Golf courses have several hitting areas, marked with different colours. Players choose them depending on their level of play, stroke length and handicap recommendations. Longer hitting areas are for players who can cover longer distances, while shorter ones offer a more accessible version of the course.

That is why beginners and experienced players, women and men, can play on the same playground without any problems.
Everyone plays by the same rules, but from different distances. That’s one of the interesting things about golf: the course is the same, but the experience can be tailored to the player.

 

📜 Rules every beginner should know

Like in other sports, there are several rules that everyone should know.
Golf has a fairly simple etiquette: respect for other players, the playing field and the rules.

♦ When another player is preparing for a shot, there is no talking, walking or standing in his field of vision.
◊ It is important to keep the rhythm of the game and follow the group in front of you. In a word, it is not right to insert yourself into another group without agreement.
♦ A very important thing is to take care of the playground itself. If you take out a piece of grass with a stick, it needs to be put back in place. The track of the ball on the green should be repaired, and after the game from the bunker, the sand should be levelled.
◊ On the greens, don’t walk on a line where another player could putt. And of course, safety always takes precedence over results. You should never stand in front of a player preparing to hit or in the direction of his shot.

♦ And the simplest rule, as Daniel said, could be: leave the playground as you found it.

 

👕👚👟What to wear for golf: the question is now…

Today, golf is not as formal as it used to be, but certain dress codes still exist.

It is recommended to wear sports clothes, such as a polo shirt with a collar, golf pants or appropriate shorts, and athletic sneakers. Jeans, classic collarless shirts, shorts with accented outer pockets, and clothing with inappropriate or offensive writing are not permitted.

The idea is not that golf has to be stiff and formal. Clothing should be comfortable for playing, but also suitable for the atmosphere of the golf course.

Golf Livada attracts guests from various European countries, especially from Austria and Germany. More and more players also come from Croatia and Serbia. Some of them include golf in their vacation at Terme 3000.

It is also a social meeting with friends, family, colleagues, or business partners, as well. Who knows how many business deals were made during one round of golf …

The Golf guide: what to know before you play

If you’ve never played golf before, some words initially seem a bit intimidating.
So, let’s check some of the terms to help you instantly speak the language of golf on the grass.

• PAR is the predetermined, ideal number of strokes expected to need to complete a hole. For example, on a “Par 4” hole, the objective is to sink the ball in four shots or fewer.
• A tee is the tiny wooden or plastic peg used to elevate the ball for your very first shot on any given hole. “Tee box” refers to the official starting area of the hole.
• A fairway is the wide, short-mown strip of grass stretching between the tee box and the final green. This is exactly where you want your ball to land after your initial drive.
• The green is the smooth, premium finishing zone of the hole where the grass is cut to a fraction of an inch. This is where the actual hole and flagstick are located.
• A putter is a special type of club used for making the final, most precise shots on the green around the hole.
